North of the North
Experience the North of the North
Experience the North of the North, a magical place where the Atlantic and Cantabrian seas meet, where you can discover the hidden corners of northern Galicia and feel the calm of a land where time seems to stand still.
Slow Tourism Northern Galicia offers you the chance to enjoy an unspoiled territory, free from mass tourism, with a rugged coastline and numerous protected natural areas… and a pace of life worth reclaiming one marked only by your biological clock where you can experience a different way of traveling: wandering, savoring every sensation, and learning or relearning how to enjoy life in another way. A sustainable journey, a conscious journey, where you interact with local culture, taste regional products, and engage in nature activities. Few places can offer natural spectacles as beautiful as those you will find here.
Take a walk alongside some of Europe’s highest cliffs and explore parts of the Río Eo, Oscos and Terras de Bourón Biosphere Reserves, as well as the Terras del Miño and the best-preserved Atlantic riparian forests in Europe, the Fragas do Eume. Silently explore the Ría de O Barqueiro, letting the calm be broken only by roe deer, herons, or falcons… stroll along the Eo Greenway and embrace a giant eucalyptus in Souto da Retorta. Enjoy the best views of the northernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula, Estaca de Bares (designated a National Natural Site of Interest since 1933), where you can watch migratory birds, and discover the oldest rocks on Earth the eclogites at Cabo Ortegal.
Let yourself be carried away by its history, traveling back to a time when Spain’s oldest cathedral was built and medieval villages and castles were raised; be enchanted by stories and legends that immerse you in a magical destination.
The North of the North is full of natural, historical, and monumental heritage, but also ethnographic heritage and life stories that will immerse you in local culture.
Here you can enjoy views of the meeting of two infinite seas, wide stretches of long, wild sandy beaches for walking, small coves for disconnecting, towering cliffs for observing the vast ocean, hidden natural paradises to lose yourself in, and secret corners to escape the world.
Legend has it that “those who don’t visit San Andrés de Teixido alive will go there dead”, so we know you will come to discover the North of the North sooner or later… We look forward to welcoming you!
