Who we are
What Is Slow Tourism Northern Galicia?
Slow Tourism Northern Galicia is a network of accommodations committed to sustainability, reclaiming the true essence of travel: getting to know a place deeply by discovering its landscapes, customs, traditions, and the way of life of its local community.
Authenticity, commitment to sustainability, and connection to our land are the foundation of what we offer. We promote a conscious and respectful form of tourism that brings back essential values, offering more genuine, slower, and enriching experiences.
We work under the following principles:
Preserving culture and the environment: We believe tourism can be a force for good, helping to protect our natural and cultural resources, keeping traditions alive, and safeguarding our land for future generations.
Enjoying time with quality: We believe the best experiences are those savored “amodiño” (gently and slowly), taking the time to truly feel each place.
Discovering the soul of the destination: We help you realize that the best landscapes are not always marked on tourist maps, and that the true treasure of Northern Galicia lies in the little details: in the aroma of a traditional dish, in birdsong at dawn, in a conversation with a local artisan…

Our shared goal is to develop a sustainable economic activity that balances environmental, social, and economic aspects—generating a positive impact on our surroundings. To help you better understand our philosophy, we invite you to explore our Decalogue of Commitments, upheld by all the businesses that form part of Slow Tourism Northern Galicia:

- Small-Scale Accommodations
We have fewer than 20 rooms (most of them fewer than 10), which helps us minimize our environmental footprint and offer a more authentic, personal experience. - Traditional and Sustainable Buildings
Our facilities are integrated into the landscape, using natural materials like stone, wood, and glass—often recovered from old buildings to preserve local character—or newly built with full respect for the environment. - Environmental Best Practices
We support the use of renewable energy, manage waste efficiently (reduce, reuse, recycle), save water, and control light pollution to protect our surroundings. - Energy Efficiency
We use thermal insulation systems, low-consumption lighting, and water-saving devices to optimize the use of natural resources. - Support for the Local Economy
We are committed to the social and economic fabric of our community: hiring local staff, sourcing zero-kilometer products, and collaborating with local suppliers and entrepreneurs.
- Environmental Education and Awareness We inform our guests about our sustainable practices and encourage them to adopt eco-friendly behaviors during their stay, contributing to the sustainable development of the region.

What Does It Mean to Travel in Slow Mode?
Disconnect from the rush, reconnect with nature
Slow tourism is an invitation to slow down, forget the clock, and fully enjoy the present moment. Instead of rushing from one tourist attraction to another, we invite you to get lost in Galician forests, stroll leisurely through our towns and villages, and let yourself be enchanted by the sound of the sea along our coast.
Appreciate Authenticity
We are committed to authenticity and local traditions. Whether it’s tasting traditional preserves in a small workshop, visiting local markets, witnessing live artisan demonstrations, or discovering natural and cultural treasures every experience is a chance to connect with our way of life, our people, our customs, and our flavors.
Sustainability and Respect for Our Environment
Being slow also means being sustainable. At Slow Tourism Northern Galicia, we promote responsible travel that respects the environment and supports our local community. The accommodations, experiences, and products you’ll find here are carefully selected for their commitment to sustainability so that your footprint is always a positive one.
Rediscovering the North through Sustainability and Responsibility
For those of us who form part of this network of accommodations, Slow Tourism Northern Galicia is a way to showcase the true essence of our territory what makes it unique: a land of contrasts, rich in its own gastronomy, full of hidden gems and natural landscapes, with routes to get lost in and enjoy our traditional culture.
All of this is brought together in this website, which we’ve created as a window into everything this destination has to offer.
But above all, Slow Tourism Northern Galicia is a project rooted in sustainability, through which we aim to reflect our commitment to the environment and to society.
We pursue sustainability through responsibility:
- Environmental responsibility, to preserve what surrounds us the very foundation of our identity, shaped by nature, its strength, and its character.
- Social responsibility, by fostering a collaborative economy that benefits our local community, using nearby resources and products so that the impact of our activity is positive for everyone who lives in this area.
Slow Tourism Northern Galicia seeks sustainability by balancing the economic, environmental, and social aspects of our activity, aiming to create a positive return for our local surroundings through:
- Commitment to the environment: The businesses that form part of Slow Tourism Northern Galicia share their practices regarding their relationship with nature clean energy use, consumption control, wastewater reuse, and more. They also follow environmentally responsible practices reducing their impact or giving back what we borrow from the Earth (recycling, ecological care, etc.). You can learn more about these initiatives in the Accommodations section.
- Commitment to society: We are deeply aware of our cultural, culinary, and heritage wealth, and of the importance of the zero-kilometer economy. That’s why the breakfasts, lunches, or dinners offered in our accommodations feature local products, always with a healthy and inclusive perspective. Not all accommodations offer the same, but we all share a commitment to meeting new food trends and demands. Through ongoing training and innovation, we craft menus and recipes that respond to today’s needs without losing the soul of the North of the North. Because the foundation of healthy food is the quality of the product, and that… you’ll have to come and taste for yourself!
