Slow tourism criteria

To be part of the Slow Tourism of Northern Galicia, it is essential to meet the following mandatory criteria:

Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

  • Have your own generation or contracting of renewable energy in the establishment, partially or totally.
  • Manage waste in a sustainable manner, according to municipal management standards and the possibilities of the establishment.
  • Ensure the reduction of single-use plastics: replacing them with other materials, rejecting unnecessary packaging, promoting reuse, etc.
  • Have energy saving and efficiency measures, such as: using low-consumption light bulbs, encouraging the updating of household appliances with low-consumption ones, having automatic lighting control systems, etc.
  • Use water-saving systems, such as: flow reducers on taps, double flush on cisterns, water recirculation systems, grey water separation, etc.
  • Use cleaning products and other chemicals (such as paints or varnishes) with reduced environmental impact.
  • Follow sustainable practices in the management of gardens, orchards and other green areas, such as: using organic fertilizers, watering with automatic control systems, avoiding the use of synthetic pesticides, avoiding the use of invasive exotic species, etc.
  • Employ measures to reduce food waste.

Support for the local community

  • Prioritize hiring local staff.
  • Count on local supplier companies.
  • Favor the use of local primary food products.
  • Ensure the promotion of art, architecture or local cultural heritage
  • Offer leisure services, products or experiences based on environmental respect and the promotion of local culture.
  • Support, participate or promote actions for local development.

Conscious and responsible tourism

  • Provide information on tourist points of interest, local experiences, restaurants, crafts, etc.
  • Provide information and management of transport options with lower polluting emissions.
  • Commit to training and raising awareness among staff about the establishment's environmental management practices.
  • Promote customer awareness of the establishment's environmental management practices.
